Jose Taco in Escanaba has new owners

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We here at Upper Peninsula Second Wave are pretty big fans of the humble taco. It doesn’t matter if it’s hard or soft, just so long as it is a taco and it tastes good.

That’s why we’re excited that Jose Taco in Escanaba is now under new ownership, and those owners happen to be Erik and Diane Johnson, who also own D&M Subs (one of our two favorite sub spots in the U.P.).

The Johnsons, who opened up the taco shop as the new owners Oct. 6, have brought back some of the old favorite recipes, like the sour cream burrito ($3.99 for a mini and $6.49 for the large), and their menu is full of tasty treats and good prices. Want a taco? Just $1.49, and just $1 on Tuesday. How about a taco burger? Just $2.49. Nachos? Just $3.49.

“We were trained by the original owners Jackie and Loran Wulf,” the Johnsons write on the company’s Facebook page. “Diane and I are proud to reopen this classic Mexican-American restaurant for your eating pleasure.”

And they have menu items for those who aren’t as smitten with tacos as we are, like hot dogs, chicken strips, French fries (with chili and cheese varieties as well) and some chicken strips, too.

Make sure to stop by 2315 Ludington Street in Escanaba and have a bite.
