Enstrom Helicopters bought by Chinese firm, plans expansion
Menominee-based helicopter manufacturer Enstrom Helicopters announced it has been been acquired by a Chinese company, Chongqing Helicopter Investment Co., Ltd.
Enstrom president Jerry Mullins says the change will help Enstrom expand in Asia, which is expected to be a major market for helicopters in coming years.
“This is a major step in moving Enstrom to a new level,” says Mullins. “It will provide Enstrom with the needed resources to enhance marketing efforts in China and around the world. This strong ownership will allow further growth of our business in Menominee, Michigan to meet the demands of the increasing markets around the world, especially Asia.”
He adds Enstrom has seen a 50 percent growth in its employment in the last two years, and expects to keep growing. With the purchase also comes a planned expansion at Enstrom’s Menominee facility, which will make it capable of increasing production to meet higher demand.
Enstrom, founded here in the U.P, in 1959, previously was owned by a group of Swiss investors.
