Don’t miss out: Forward Drinking comes to Marquette

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The ability to bike through Marquette is a topic of interest to a lot of folks in the city and township.

The outdoor life culture here, mixed with a Division II college, tends to mean there are a lot of people who use bikes as their chosen mode of transportation. The Michigan Environmental Council and Michigan Energy Options recognize that fact, which is why they want to sit down and discuss how to make Marquette an even more bike-friendly community.

That’s why the two groups will be pairing good food and local drinks with friendly company and a lively discussion about helping Marquette meet that goal come Friday, Nov. 11, starting at 8 p.m. at the Vierling. The Vierling is located at 119 South Front Street in Marquette.

This is the second installment in MEC’s Forward Drinking discussion series.

“The idea of these events is to bring together community members and local experts to discuss an environmental issue that is important to the local community,” says Allie Muchmore, of the Michigan Environmental Council. “These are fun, informal events (obviously–panelists and audience are welcome to drink beer throughout), but we also hope to open up meaningful community conversations, and that audience members walk away feeling able and excited to get involved and improve their community.”

Marquette has a strong bike culture and is surrounded by great trails, but the city itself could be made much safer for cyclists and pedestrians. A panel of local experts will offer their insights and field questions about what’s needed to make Marquette’s streets safe and inviting for everyone, and why that’s good for the community.

Oh, and don’t forget–there will be free appetizers.

To RSVP or to ask questions about the event, contact Muchmore via email.
