Art Van Furniture to expand to Sault Ste. Marie

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It seems like just the other day that we were writing about furniture retailer Art Van’s first foray into the Upper Peninsula. Now, the Michigan-based franchise is teaming up with another longtime U.P. appliance store for a new location in Sault Ste. Marie.

The new store will be located in the former Shunk Furniture building in the Sault, and is a partnership with Erickson Appliance and Furniture, to create a new enterprise, Art Van Furniture and Erickson Appliance.

“Working with three generations of the Erickson family, including founders Keith and Joanne Erickson and their sons Don and Tom, is an exciting new chapter for the community,” says Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture.

The store is located on the I-75 business spur and will undergo complete renovation starting this month on the showroom and warehouses; it’s scheduled to open by November 1 and employ a dozen new hires.
