Two U.P. companies collaborate and release Northern Lights puzzle

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We here at Upper Peninsula Second Wave are pretty lucky to have Shawn Malone as the managing photographer. She really takes some wonderful photos and we’re not the only one who thinks so. Malone’s photos have been featured all over the place, such as NBC Nightly News, National Geographic and NASA’s website.

And now, thanks to collaboration between Malone’s Lake Superior Photo and Gwinn-based Avery Color Studios, one of her photos of the Northern Lights has been turned into a 550-piece jigsaw puzzle.

“This has been an exceptional year for Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, photo opportunities,” says Malone. “Every night seems to bring another display of this spectacular phenomenon. Avery approached me about doing a puzzle using one of my images and I agreed immediately. They are a quality company and I was certain the end product would be excellent, and I wasn’t disappointed.”

Wells and Amy Chapin, the owners of Avery Color Studios, were impressed with the photos that Malone has been producing of the Upper Peninsula night sky.

“We are thrilled to be working with Shawn on this puzzle project,” the company’s owners say in a prepared statement. “The puzzle certainly turned out beautifully and we are excited to offer the ‘Northern Lights’ puzzle in our product offerings. Who knows, with the beautiful photos she is getting, there may be another puzzle in the future.”
