Michigan Tech named “Best in the Midwest” by Princeton Review

According to student ratings in the latest “Best in the Midwest” compilation of higher education institutions from the Princeton Review, Michigan Technological University is one of the best.

It’s one of the 153 institutions listed in the Princeton Review’s “Best in the Midwest” section of its publication, “2012 Best Colleges.” While the main criteria for being listed is academic excellence, other, student-rated factors also come into the equation.

Accessibility of professors, quality of campus food, and student body and campus life are all part of the discussion that led to the listing.

“Michigan Tech has always fared well in these types of surveys because our students are candid about their experience,” says Les Cook, Michigan Tech’s vice president for student affairs. “Our students appreciate the value of a Michigan Tech degree, but they also embrace the distinctive culture and environment in which it is earned.”

Some of the traits that students agreed Tech exemplifies were “great computer and athletic facilities,” “great career services,” and “students get along with the local community.”

The schools for the Princeton Review’s annual listing are separated by regions, and about 25 percent of U.S. four-year colleges make the list. Michigan Tech also made it onto a shorter list of the Princeton Review’s “The Best 376 Colleges: 2012 Edition.”
