The Curvy Girl plus-size clothing store opening in Sault Ste. Marie

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Downtown Sault Ste. Marie will soon have a new clothing store, designed specially for plus-size women. The Curvy Girl will be opening in June on Spruce Street, next to Penny’s Kitchen. It’s owned by Dulcey Garber, a Lake Superior State University graduate, and that’s one reason LSSU retail management students have been participating in the startup process.

Students have been helping film tutorials on fashion, wardrobe choice, makeovers and lifestyle for plus-size women with Garber, and will be organizing The Curvy Girl’s grand opening in June. The work serves as a hands-on field experience for the students and as a boost for the new business.

The Curvy Girl also does select resale and consignment of plus-size women’s clothing, as well as offering individual fashion consultations and personal shopping. Garber describes the clothing she sells as “business trendy,” and focuses on high quality new and gently used clothing and accessories. The Curvy Girl extends its services to shopping memberships and life-enhancing classes, and takes consignment by appointment only.
