“As someone who grew up in Marquette, I’ve always looked at this location with a mix of intrigue and reverence for its beauty and spectacular landscape,” said Jeremy Johnson, Kona Hills Campground cofounder and co-owner. “Developing Kona Hills Campground with conservation and preservation in mind, and now sharing it with the world, is a dream come true.”
The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan hosts its annual Small Town and Rural Development Conference June 9-11 at Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville.
“I saw a chance to bring something new to the community that helped raise me,” says Chef Trevor Kunnari. “I want people here to enjoy the kind of quality and creativity you'd expect in a bigger city, without having to drive to Chicago to find it.”
“Splash pads are important spaces of public recreation during the summertime in Michigan,” said Paula Holtz, who is managing director Prosperity for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
“Bay Mills Community College is honored to be recognized as a Carnegie Opportunity College and University for our commitment to increasing student access and supporting strong post-graduation outcomes,” said Dr. Duane Bedell, president of Bay Mills Community College.
"The summit will be a great chance to network and build communities," says Phil Britton, a facilitator and spokesman for the Outdoor Recreation Innovation Action Network.
"The Career Services office engages with students on day one of their journey here at Michigan Tech, and we prioritize meaningful employer partnerships," said Cody Kangas, executive director of Career Services for Michigan Tech.
"Tourism is the economic backbone of the Upper Peninsula. From lodging and dining to outdoor adventure and local shopping, visitors provide vital support to our communities, businesses and workforce," said Tom Nemacheck, executive director of the Upper Peninsula Travel & Recreation Association.
“Scholarships empower our students, enabling them to overcome financial hurdles and pursue their educational aspirations without distraction," said Nikki Storey, president of the Marine Trades Institute.
"My hope is that this endowment will provide a steady stream of support -- without forcing the site to become overly commercialized just to survive,” said one of the fund donors.
