“The scope of these projects is impressive,” said Brandon Fewin, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development State Director for Michigan. “When you look at the changes to KI Sawyer and the scope of our work in Ironwood, it really demonstrates what USDA can help Upper Peninsula communities achieve.”
“The lack of payment for our work in Michigan’s prisons has led to a reduction in our schedule, leaving one less ambulance on the road to respond to emergencies or to provide hospital transfers for our patients,” said Kinross EMS Director Renee Gray.
“Phase 2 work focused on rehabilitating the upstream approach walls to guide vessels into the New Lock and will allow the vessels to moor on the wall,” said Ryan Berkompas, a Soo Project engineer. “The old approach walls in the northern channel were the same age as the Sabin and Davis Locks, over 100 years old.”
“I know the impact this organization can have on one person and our entire community,” said Kiersten Birondo, new executive director. “I am outrageously excited and honored to be chosen to lead the Rozsa into next year’s 25th anniversary and beyond, continuing to imagine innovative ways for the Rozsa to serve the campus and community.”
The six Michigan health departments covering the whole Upper Peninsula teamed up to promote the importance of public health in their communities and raise awareness about the many services they provide.
“We wanted to celebrate and show what we as a community did to bring people together and create spaces for them on a limited budget, and how even the simplest things can make a difference — and show other communities that they can do it too,” said Houghton City Manager Eric Waara.
“I am very happy that Doug, with his proven track record, will now lead our North America operations, which are integral to Billerud’s business and growth strategy," said Billerud CEO and President Ivar Vatne.

“We’re using the funds to learn, train, and support our staff, and understand what our customers need to stay on top of climate-related changes to their businesses,” said Elissa Sangalli, president of Northern Initiatives.
The Great Lakes Research Center at Michigan Technological University this week launched its Autonomous Surface Vessel. The unmanned vessel will map the Great Lakes and help answer decades-old questions involving the whereabouts of more than 200 unaccounted for shipwrecks and plane crashes in Lake Superior.
