Habaneros Fresh Mexican Kitchen expected to open June 1

A new Mexican restaurant is coming to Hancock soon, from the owners of the Library Restaurant & Brewpub in Houghton.

Habaneros Fresh Mexican Kitchen is set to open in early June in the historic Scott Hotel at the corner of Quincy and White streets in downtown Hancock. It’s opening under the direction of Jim and Julie Cortright; Jim owns the Library while Julie manages the waitstaff and front of house.

The name emphasizes freshness for a reason: the restaurant will use nothing canned or frozen, instead making everything on the traditional Mexican menu from scratch, says Julie.

“Guacamole will be whipped table-side, and fresh tortillas will be made from scratch and baked at the front of the restaurant. Even the house margarita, Casa Rita, will be shaken to order by the servers,” she says.

Habaneros also will include La Tequileria, a full bar specializing in margaritas and mojitos, made, of course, with fresh ingredients, and taking advantage of the brewpub of the Library, with similar microbrew offerings.
