Grant helps fix homes in Marquette County

What’s happening: Marquette County Habitat for Humanity received a $49,833 grant to help complete four critical home repairs in Marquette County. The grant comes from the home improvement chain Lowe’s as the company continues a national program in the hopes of helping out low-income homeowners make the necessary improvements and maintenance on their property.

What is the project: Four initiatives are funded by the grant: fixing a deteriorating roof for a senior with disabilities living with her family, constructing a sturdy wooden ramp for an elderly veteran’s daughter, restoring an old roof for a widowed senior, and renewing worn steps and mending other hazardous structures for a single woman residing in a remote area. These projects will help keep locals in their homes.

What they’re saying: “Low-income homeowners in our area struggle to afford to hire contractors due to labor shortages and increasing prices,” said Henry Sale, Repairs Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity.  “Marquette County Habitat for Humanity’s repair program exists to help these homeowners be safe in their homes.”

What’s next: Habitat for Humanity is building its 111th house in the area, providing crucial housing for those looking to live and work in Marquette County.
