About the position: Perkowitz  will lead initiatives that strengthen Houghton’s economic vitality, enhance its cultural landscape, and ensure that both residents and visitors feel the heartbeat of a city on the rise. In her new role, she hopes to foster meaningful partnerships, support local entrepreneurs, and continue the momentum of progress that makes Houghton a place people are proud to call home.

About Perkowitz: She is the owner of BigGoat Farm in Houghton, home to 15 goats and in the design phase for dairy operations, and aims to operate the only Grade A Dairy in the Keweenaw. As a successful entrepreneur, she launched and grew ventures that not only thrived but also uplifted the communities around them. Her reputation as a “cheerleader for others” is well-earned: she champions small businesses, mentors fellow creatives, and celebrates the wins of those around her, officials said. “I believe in the power of people and place,” Perkowitz said. “Houghton is a city with deep roots and bold potential. I’m honored to help cultivate its next chapter.”

What they’re saying: “We are very excited to have Danielle come aboard.” said City Manager Eric Waara, “We have a lot going on between our local businesses, events, and projects throughout the year and having someone dedicated to managing it all will help make what we have been doing even better.”
