Keweenaw Community Foundation awards $63,050 in grants to community projects

What’s happening: The Keweenaw Community Foundation has awarded $63,050 in grants to support a variety of projects and programs that address community needs and opportunities in Houghton and Keweenaw counties. 

The recipients: The grants support specific causes, populations or geographic areas, “reflecting the unique passions and interests of the donors who established fund,” the foundation said in a news release. The funds, with varying amounts awarded, include Community Impact Fund; Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund; Copper Shores Community Wellness and Outdoor Recreation Fund; Keweenaw Cross Country Skiing Fund; Environmental Fund; and Houghton County Historical Preservation Fund. Among those awarded monies from the Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund ($10,000 awarded), for example, were the Portage Lake District Library, Ahmeek Village Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department and the Keweenaw Family Resource Center.
