LSSU signs reverse transfer agreement with four other colleges

Lake Superior State University is one of five community colleges and universities in a new regional partnership to make it easier for students to complete degrees at both the associate’s and bachelor’s levels.

The agreement is called a reverse transfer agreement, and includes North Central Michigan College, Alpena Community College, Kirtland Community College and Ferris State University as well as LSSU.

It means that students from any of the community colleges who transfer to Ferris or LSSU can still be awarded an associate’s degree at the community college with reverse transferred credits from the university.

“It’s important that all students who enter the university system receive the degrees they’ve earned, whether it’s at the university or the community college,” says LSSU Provost Morrie Walworth. “We’re happy to be able to work with our community college partners to ensure that credits earned at LSSU can be used to provide students with their well-deserved associate’s degrees and to have those degrees awarded by the community college.”

The agreement will streamline the educational process for many students, and help with student retention and degree completion. It is expected to affect several hundred transfer students from the community colleges to the universities.
