Malone’s Lens: Surf’s up in the U.P.
You may not be aware, but Lake Supeior is home to some impressive waves, which makes it an ideal location for freshwater surfers. U.P. Second Wave's Shawn Malone has been snapping pictures of the thrill seekers who hit the water in search of some gnarly whitecaps to ride, as you can see in her most recent slideshow.
Whoa! That’s one wicked wave, dude. And, you know what, it’s right here in the Upper Peninsula.
You don’t have to be on the beaches of southern California or in Hawaii to experience the thrill of riding a wave of a surfboard. Just ask Shawn Malone, the resident photographer for U.P. Second Wave who has been capturing snapshots of surfers on Lake Superior for years.
