Within days of its release, a special-edition Stormy Kromer cap commemorating the tragic sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sold out. The caps were a fundraiser for a Wisconsin organization that wants to erect an historical sign at the ship's last port of call on Lake Superior.
A special fund created by the Keweenaw Community Foundation will help support local management, sustainable access and long-term care of the Keweenaw Heartlands.
“The sculptures were intended to bring the memory of those miners and their families, those original immigrants to this area, back here,” says artist Kasey Koski.
"There are multiple groups that help people learn about the outdoors and enjoy things they've never done before in community with others, but people don't always know they exist or actively seek them out," says Shawnrece Butler, assistant vice president for Opportunity, Empowerment and People at Northern Michigan University.
Rx Kids, the country’s first universal and unconditional cash prescription program for pregnant people and infants, has expanded into other rural areas of Michigan, including the Upper Peninsula. The program provides financial support to every eligible family within a geographic area, no income requirements, no strings attached.
