A rebar manufacturer is locating in the Keweenaw Peninsula after getting a community development block grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund.

The funding, $275,000, will be administrated by Allouez Township, and is to be used for on-the-job training for workers that are newly employed at Neuvokas Corporation.

Neuvokas is a developer and manufacturer of basalt-fiber-reinforced-polymer rebar, located in Ahmeek, and plans to lease the former Rensen Manufacturing building in Allouez in order to expand its operations. Neuvokas plans to invest about $1.3 million in new equipment, machinery and payroll, hiring 31 new workers.

With the grant funding, the company can be sure those workers will be well-trained for their new jobs.
