Houghton will host Innovative Accessibility Summit

What’s happening: The first-of-its-kind Upper Peninsula Accessibility Summit will take place Sept. 26 and 27 at Michigan Technological University in Houghton. 

Hosted by the Accessible Keweenaw Initiative (AKI), the summit offers 
an opportunity for individuals, businesses, organizations and
community leaders to gain actionable insights on creating inclusive
recreation opportunities. Whether it’s wheelchair-friendly entrances
to downtown businesses, more adaptive equipment at sites or
broader infrastructure, the summit will equip attendees with the
knowledge, tools and strategies needed to make a tangible impact.

Speakers: Keynote speakers include Kaelynn Partlow, a lead technician and autism advocate featured on Netflix’s “Love on the Spectrum,” and Robin Jones, director of the Great Lakes ADA Center and Accessibility Advisor for the 2024 Democratic Convention. 

Partners: Accessible Keweenaw Initiative partners include Keweenaw Community Foundation, The Western U.P. Planning and Development Region (WUPPDR), Visit Keweenaw and Michigan Tech.
