U.P. Bows launches as new endeavor
Looking for a fun recreational bow but don’t want to pick up something made overseas or out of the state? We’d like to introduce you to U.P. Bows.
The company, which was founded late December by Jason White and Chuck Gudegast, creates bows in a variety of sizes and, as of right now, no two are the same.
“Our bows stand out for a variety of reasons,” says White. “Firstly, they are produced right in in the Yoop with materials 100-percent made in the USA, so you can feel good buying them. Secondly, are like no other bow around.”
White says that because the bows are plastic, he and Gudegast get to use some” really exciting paints that result in fantastic finishes. From matte camos to high gloss black, blue, green, even pink. There really is no limit. In fact, our favorite part of the process is the painting.”
The bows can be adjusted for draw, ranging from the average 30-40-pound draw weight to those that are 65-70.
While the bows can be used to hunt small game, White says they are primarily made for target shooting and collecting. He says that U.P. Bows will hopefully produce a bow capable of hunting deer with by this coming fall.
“Personally, I prefer shooting our bows over other bows,” says White. “The thing that pleases me is the primitiveness, as in returning closer to the origin of the sport–lacking modern technologies and conveniences–yet with a modern material. It is an interesting juxtaposition. It’s a whole different experience, and it’s one that just about anyone will enjoy.”
The bows are currently available at MT’s on Front Street in Marquette, but White says they hope to expand in the near future in both retail availability and products.
“I really want to be able to start producing wood bows this summer, but in the mean time we have several other exciting products we are working on using this same process,” he says. “Currently we are putting the finishing touches to our snowshoe prototypes and we have a handful of other products designed that we hope to be producing by time the snow melts.”
