Almost Home Animal Shelter opens doors in Quinnesec

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

If you’re looking to give a pet a new forever home, then there’s a new place in Qunnesec that you may want to consider checking out.

The Almost Home Animal Shelter recently opened at 5060 Lincoln Avenue and features a selection of animals that are looking to be adopted. When the shelter first opened, the population was relatively low with 28 cats and four dogs looking for new owners.

The shelter is 10,000 square feet and was built with large dog kennels and cat cages, adoption and isolation rooms, a small animal room and location for storage and all of the humans who work there to do their day-to-day operations.

To help make sure that nearby residents aren’t annoyed by the sounds of the animals, a barrier was constructed to help muffle the noise of barking dogs. In addition, the shelter has a complete ventilation system to help keep clean air circulating throughout.

The shelter will also have a veterinary clinic right on site, which will allow each and every animal that leaves the shelter to be neutered or spayed.

The shelter is also seeking volunteers and donations to help with the care of the animals. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact shelter board member Bill Hardacre at 906-563-8883.

The shelter is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The shelter is closed Mondays.
