"I'm excited to explore other options to eliminate the waste produced with commercial fishing,” said Paul Smith, Owner of First Catch LLC. “As an indigenous business owner, the environment is always a concern. Currently, most of our waste is used to fertilizer for our community garden, while some of it we use as a snack for our personal flock of ducks and chickens."

Michigan Tech receives $5M grant for building upgrades

“The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation continues to see the potential in our students and is helping to advance Michigan Tech as a premier national university positioned to lead the nation in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” said Rick Koubek, president of Michigan Technological University.

Grant helps fix homes in Marquette County

“Low-income homeowners in our area struggle to afford to hire contractors due to labor shortages and increasing prices,” said Henry Sale, a repairs coordinator for Marquette County Habitat for Humanity. “Marquette County Habitat for Humanity’s repair program exists to help these homeowners be safe in their homes.”

Grant program will help improve crucial roads

“These grants will help communities across Michigan fix local roads faster to get people to work, allow businesses to expand, and move goods all year round,” said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

STEM tour kicks off in Houghton on Dec. 12
