Newsweek names the U.P.’s Laurium Manor Inn as #1 Historical B&B in America

What’s happening: Newsweek has named the Laurium Manor Inn in Laurium on the Keweenaw Peninsula as the  #1 Historical Bed & Breakfast in the United States by Newsweek Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards. The Laurium Manor Inn is part of the Keweenaw National Historical Park as a heritage site.

What it means: This national recognition shines a spotlight on the Keweenaw Peninsula — a Lake Superior destination celebrated for its rugged beauty, cultural heritage, and warm hospitality. For visitors, Laurium Manor is more than a stay; it’s a journey back to the Copper Country’s golden age, when mining wealth built some of the Midwest’s most stunning homes, The Newsweek title is expected to inspire new travelers to explore the U.P. 
 
About the inn: Completed in 1908 by mining magnates Thomas and Cornelia Hoatson, the 45-room mansion features stained glass windows, intricate woodwork, grand fireplaces, and original furnishings that capture the opulence of the early 20th century. Today, innkeepers Julie and Dave Sprenger have cared for the property for more than three decades.
