Michigan’s rural residents face different challenges when accessing mental health care than residents of urban areas. Transportation issues, loneliness, and limited group therapy options can compound their mental health needs. To address these challenges, community mental health (CMH) agencies innovate community-based solutions that meet their populations where they are at.

Long a part of the cultural fabric of the Keweenaw Peninsula, the thimbleberry is being celebrated with its first-ever festival, rolling out at farmers' markets in Houghton, Hancock and Calumet this week.
The Marquette Trail 50 is considered one of the Midwest’s signature ultras, famous for its rugged, challenging course and high peaks with views of Lake Superior. Those peaks are often the undoing of many runners.
“This experience has helped you explore what the world needs, what you’re good at, what you love and what you can be paid for,” said Trent Bellingar, director of the DSISD Career and Technical Education Center.
"We knew this project would resonate with our community, but we were blown away by the overwhelming response," said Gina Thorsen, CEO of Stormy Kromer. "It's an honor to support this meaningful effort and help ensure the legacy of the Fitzgerald and her crew is preserved for generations to come."
“The Superior Watershed Partnership is pleased to be working with the Michigan DNR to remove three obsolete dams in the Upper Peninsula,” said Geraldine Grant, who is a planner for the Superior Watershed Partnership.
