What’s happening: Applications are open for Michigan startup founders to take part in the Outdoor Innovation Pitch Competition, an event led by the Michigan Outdoor Innovation Fund in partnership with the Centrepolis Accelerator, Innovate Marquette and the Peak26 conference. The competition will be held on March 27.

Michigan’s outdoor focus: Michigan’s outdoor recreation industry is a major piece of the state’s overall economic portfolio. State officials have working to bolster innovation in the industry with the Outdoor Innovation Pitch Competition and other endeavors. Investments through the Michigan Outdoor Innovation Fund and other business acceleration programs have helped companies develop new products, expand and strengthen the industry.

What they’re saying: “The Peak conference has proven to be an excellent avenue in celebrating the work Michigan startups are doing to advance the outdoor recreation industry with new innovations,” said Jim Tenzillo, managing director of the Michigan Outdoor Innovation Fund. “Michigan’s vast opportunity for outdoor recreation companies to thrive is growing and we’re proud to highlight leading ventures with the Peak26 Outdoor Innovation Pitch Competition.”

What’s next: Pitch submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. March 3. After a review, finalists will be invited to a judged live pitch competition in Marquette on Friday, March 27. One grand prize of $50,000 in services and investments will be awarded, as well as a ‘Make it in Michigan Award’ for up to $5,000 in product development services.
