WeCAN supporting artists in West End creative community

There’s a new nonprofit in western Marquette County that has made it a mission to help support the artists in that neck of the woods.

The West End Community Arts Network–or simply WeCan–recently achieved 501(c)3 nonprofit status after six months of dedicated work toward that goal.

“The idea for WeCan came about almost three years ago when a group of like-minded, talented and dedicated people formed a steering committee with the intent of realizing a full-service community arts group,” says John French, a founding member of the organization and artist. “That dream has finally taken a huge step toward fruition.”

The mission of WeCan is to promote the arts and artistic expression to the residents of western Marquette County, using and highlighting local talent from around the Upper Peninsula and, when necessary, beyond.

“We will accomplish this by presenting musical performances, live dramatic performances, visual arts exhibits, dance, film screenings, classes and workshops,” says French. “We have great support from the community and we’re looking for more. We want to know what the residents of Ishpeming and Negaunee want to see from WeCan.”

Anyone who would like to contact WeCan can do so via email.
