Two Upper Peninsula history organizations have been named recipients of the first ever Michigan History Alliance Grants. The inaugural grant program from the Historical Society of Michigan awarded a total of $25,080 to 14 of its member organizations in this initial round.
“This is an amazing accomplishment for the city of Hancock. A big thank you for the hard work and dedication of city staff in helping achieve this milestone,” says City Manager Mary Babcock. “The Redevelopment Ready Community designation shows the strides we have taken to put best practices in place to create a welcoming community for residents, business owners and potential investors.”
"It gives me great pride to represent the manufacturing community of the Upper Peninsula and to manufacture products here that ship all over the world,” Bob Jacquart says.
“The DTE Foundation looks forward to seeing how our grants and support come to fruition in our communities through these newly planted trees,” says Lynette Dowler, president of the DTE Energy Foundation.
“This is about adding more tools that help make it easier for folks to be able to celebrate here and get together and gather,” says Alex Palzewicz, Events and Taproom Manager.
“[The owners] thought it was really important that we’d be the only downtown television station in Marquette. They also liked the idea of taking an old building and rehabbing it,” says Brian Trauring, executive vice president for Lilly Broadcasting.
“The campus master plan presents a collective vision from our students, staff and faculty about the future of Michigan Tech and the facilities we will put in place to support that vision,” says Rick Koubek, Michigan Tech president..
“I firmly believe that public art brings the community together and it brings economic growth to an area. And I think that our community recognizes that,” says Mindy Meyers, program director for the Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority.
“The social district provides new opportunities for more people to come downtown and for us to drive more traffic downtown. That's what we're looking for, for people to come to our businesses,” says Nate Heffron, city manager for Negaunee.
You’ll find that most of these business owners have some of the biggest hearts of anybody, and have a strong focus on their local communities and have made a significant impact,” says Rich Tegge, co-chair of Operation Action U.P.
