The first graduates of Michigan State University's PA Medicine program are working across the state -- some in medically underserved communities or in rural areas like the U.P., where there is a health care provider shortage.
The America 250MI Committee has awarded $50,000 to the Big Annie Statue Project in Calumet. The money will help build a statue to honor Anna “Big Annie” Klobuchar Clemenec, a prominent labor activist during the early 20th century.
"Our beautiful state offers outdoor recreation opportunities and picturesque views not found anywhere else, so it’s critical that the DNR helps invest in and fund Michigan’s harbors and boating access sites for the benefit of all," said Kristen Kosick, who is Parks and Recreation Division chief for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
"These grants reflect the generosity of our donors and the incredible work being done by nonprofits on the ground. We're honored to help bridge the gap between those who want to give and those creating lasting impact in our communities," said Zosia Eppensteiner, CEO of the CFMC.
Three lifelong Marquette friends with a passion for the outdoors and rustic camping have come together to create their campground: Kona Hills Campground. The unique 80-acre site boast views of Lake Superior, the Huron Mountains and Marquette.
"Childcare continues to be one of the most commonly cited barriers to workforce participation, and as a local economic development organization, we seek to remove such barriers every day," says Christopher Germain, who is CEO of the Lake Superior Community Partnership
The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan hosts its annual Small Town and Rural Development Conference June 9-11 at Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville.
“As someone who grew up in Marquette, I’ve always looked at this location with a mix of intrigue and reverence for its beauty and spectacular landscape,” said Jeremy Johnson, Kona Hills Campground cofounder and co-owner. “Developing Kona Hills Campground with conservation and preservation in mind, and now sharing it with the world, is a dream come true.”
“I saw a chance to bring something new to the community that helped raise me,” says Chef Trevor Kunnari. “I want people here to enjoy the kind of quality and creativity you'd expect in a bigger city, without having to drive to Chicago to find it.”
