"The summit will be a great chance to network and build communities," says Phil Britton, a facilitator and spokesman for the Outdoor Recreation Innovation Action Network.
"Tourism is the economic backbone of the Upper Peninsula. From lodging and dining to outdoor adventure and local shopping, visitors provide vital support to our communities, businesses and workforce," said Tom Nemacheck, executive director of the Upper Peninsula Travel & Recreation Association.
“Scholarships empower our students, enabling them to overcome financial hurdles and pursue their educational aspirations without distraction," said Nikki Storey, president of the Marine Trades Institute.
"My hope is that this endowment will provide a steady stream of support -- without forcing the site to become overly commercialized just to survive,” said one of the fund donors.
Community foundations on Mackinac Island and across Northern Michigan are raising money to help support organizations providing food, shelter and services to residents impacted by the historic ice storm.
“We’re proud to join Destination Think’s Global Collective and align with destinations focused on reshaping tourism,” said Brad Barnett, executive director of Visit Keweenaw.
"It's an exciting honor to host the regional competition this year, especially since Michigan Tech initiated the Steel Bridge competition in 1987," said Connor Tokie, MTU civil and environmental engineering senior and co-captain of the Steel Bridge team.
