Lake Superior Community Partnership announces new CEO

Natalie Chmiko is the former senior vice president of culture and collaborative operations for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

What’s happening: Natalie Chmiko has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of the Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP). A former Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) employee, she worked her way up from an analyst to the agency’s senior vice president of culture and collaborative operations. She brings experience to her new role that fits projects of any size and scale regarding strategy, human resources and cross-functional operations.

Why the change: Outgoing CEO Christopher Germain announced earlier this year that he would step down to relocate with family. Germain has served in the role since 2022. He took over for Sarah Lucas when she was named deputy director for the Michigan Office of Rural Development. Germain’s tenure saw an expansion of regional economic developmental priorities like restructuring the Economic Opportunity Fund and focusing on issues impacting the employment pool like housing and daycare.

What they’re saying: “My family and I have been drawn to this part of the U.P. for years. The people, the nature, and the sense of community is hard to find anywhere else,” Chmiko said. “I am eager to get to work alongside the talented LSCP team and our incredible network of partners and investors. The organization is in a strong position, and I look forward to building on that by deepening relationships, enhancing what’s already working, and helping Marquette County continue to grow.”

What’s next: Chmiko already lived in Marquette County, so her first day was Monday, April 20. Germain will remain into May to help assist in transition. Various introduction events to the broader community will take place to better integrate Chmiko into the role.
